After an amazing day on the water, it's hard to go back home! We finished the last five miles of our trip before lunch and lingered on the last beach (just before the train trestle) to soak up some more nature before turning the kayaks back in at the Outpost in Arcadia.
We saw gators, herons, cardinals, and a family of Hawks! The Hawks had a nest built in the top of one of the trees my hammock was attached to! The parents appeared to be feeding the babies this morning! The babies were silent, not giving away their position, until mom or dad arrived! I love the way owls and Hawks hunt the same area, just at different times; owls hunt by night and Hawks by day.
On the way home, we took a detour to a very eclectic place called the Linger Lodge. It is a campground, RV park, boat ramp and restaurant on the Braden River and it just has to be seen to be appreciated! The taxidermy is abundant and the food delicious! Al Roker of NBC's Today Show called it "One of the Top 5 Weirdest Restaurants in America. Forbes magazine listed it in the "Top 10 Most Unusual Restaurants in the Workd"! If you like oddities and "old Florida", you will love this place! Check it out at
